Introducing my Crochet Extra Lemon Rectangle Blanket.  This easy crochet project is a rectangle version of my Extra Lemon Square Blanket that many of you have already enjoyed.  This blanket gets its lovely texture from the Lemon Peel stitch.  I have made this sample baby or lapghan size at 30" x 38", but you can easily continue in pattern to make a nice, sofa-sized throw.

I used 6 Caron Cotton Cakes in the Nested Blues to crochet this blanket.  I love the ease of self-striping yarn.  But as always, use your favourite yarn to create this textured beauty.  Just match your hook size to your yarn and go!

This blanket gets its lovely texture by crocheting the lemon peel stitch. I’ve added a bit extra by substituting treble crochet stitches for the double crochet stitches on certain rounds for that little something extra.

Note: To make this pattern work, you must turn your blanket at the end of every round.

Instructions

Ch 32. To change the length of the rectangle, chain in multiples of 2.

1st rnd: RS. (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in 2nd ch from hook. *1 dc in next ch, [1 sc in next ch, 1 dc in next ch] rep until 2nd last ch.** (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in last ch. Rotate the project to continue to work on the underside of the chain. Rep from * to **. 1 sc in last chain (same as beg ch). Join using half double crochet to the first sc. Turn. 30 dc, 34 sc, 4 ch-2 sps.

TIP: When you join with hdc, the hdc post is the equivalent of a ch-2 sp. This helps prevent the interior of the blanket from twisting.

2nd rnd: WS. Ch 1. 1 sc around the hdc joining post. *1 dc in next st, [1 sc in next st, 1 dc in next st.] rep until next corner. (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in ch-2 corner sp. 1 dc in next st.** (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in corner sp. Rep from * to ** once. 1 sc in beg hdc join sp. Join. Turn.

3rd rnd: RS. Ch 1. 1 sc around the hdc joining post. *1 dc in next st, [1 sc in next st, 1 dc in next st.] rep until next corner.** (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in ch-2 corner sp. Rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once. 1 sc in beg hdc join sp. Join. Turn.

4th and 5th rnds: Rep 3rd rnd.

6th rnd: WS. Ch 1. 1 sc around post of hdc. *1 tr in next st, [1 sc in next st, 1 tr in next st] rep to corner**. (1 sc. Ch 2. 1 sc) in ch-2 corner; rep from * twice more, then from * to ** once, sc in beg ch-2 sp, hdc to beg sc. Turn.

7th rnd: RS. Rep 3rd rnd.

8th rnd: WS. Rep 6th rnd.

9th to 15th rnds: Rep 3rd rnd. 7 rounds total, ending with the last round being RS.

Repeat 6th to 15th rnds, 3 more times. If you want a bigger blanket, just keep repeating.

Border

1st rnd: Ch 1, 1 reverse sc in each st and corner around. Join with sl st to first reverse sc. Fasten off.
